MONACO BLUE INITIATIVE DEBATES ON
High-sea biodiversity

protection and aquaculture

The 8 edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative was held on 3 April 2017

at the Monaco Oceanographic Museum in the presence of H.S.H. Prince

Albert II of Monaco and more than 120 international scientific, economic

and political experts. The French and Italian environment ministers,

Mrs Ségolène Royal and Mr Gian Luca Galletti, also attended the event,

as did Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for the Environment,

Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. Two key issues on the agenda were

high-seas biodiversity conservation and protection, and potential

synergies between aquaculture and Marine Protected Areas.
