Maria Purificació Canals i Ventín
Has a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Barcelona (1996). Since completing her Biology degree (UB, 1986) she has permanently combined her professional activity with her voluntary social commitments in nature conservation at local and international levels. Among other responsibilities, she was the President of the League for the Defense of Natural Heritage (DEPANA) (Catalonia, 1994-2010), Vice-president of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) (Switzerland, 2004-2008), member of the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of Catalonia (since 2007) and the Scientific Council of “Conservatoire du Littoral” in France (since 2005). She works as an international free-lance consultant and is the President of the Mediterranean Network of Marine Protected Areas (MedPAN) (since 2009). She teaches Physiology at University Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona) (since 1996), where she was also professor of Aeronautical Medicine and Environment and Aviation (2001-2005).
Maria Purificació Canals i Ventín will present Marine Protected Areas and climate change during the Monaco Blue Initiative on 3 April at the Monaco Oceanographic Museum.
