Professor Manuel Barange is Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy and Resources Division at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter, UK, a past Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Science at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, UK, and past Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
His expertise includes a broad range of oceanography, marine biology and fisheries management, with a recent focus on the impacts of climate change and economic globalization on marine-based commodities, and on the interactions between natural and social sciences in addressing fisheries issues in the era of climate change. He awarded the 2010 UNESCO-IOC Roger Revelle Medal for his contributions to ocean science, and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
Manuel Barange will discuss sustainable fishing and aquaculture in the Mediterranean during the Monaco Blue Initiative on 3 April at the Monaco Oceanographic Museum.
